🤖 AI Model (Groq)
GPT‑OSS 120B gives stronger, more nuanced feedback. GPT‑OSS 20B responds faster and costs less — useful for large classes or slower connections.
🎒 Grade Groups
Primary (Grades 1–6)
Secondary (Grades 7–12)
Turn a group off to hide it from the Grade Level picker on the setup page (e.g. for a Primary-only or Secondary-only school).
🖼 Secondary Illustrations
Show picture panels for Grades 7–12
Off by default — Grades 7–12 use a text-based writing prompt instead of picture panels. Older students generally get more value from a rich thematic prompt with discussion points than from a four-picture sequence, which can read as juvenile at this age and constrains their independent idea development. Turn this on only if your Secondary students still benefit from visual scaffolding.
✏️ Assessment Criteria
Default
One line per domain, formatted as Domain Name: description. Domain names don't need to match the default five — the AI feedback and the rubric table students see will follow whatever you save here. If a Grade/Type combination has no custom criteria saved, the built-in default is used automatically.
📝 Minimum Length Before AI Feedback
Leave a field blank to use the built-in default for that grade. Leave Characters blank (or 0) to check word count only. Students who haven't reached the minimum see a friendly message telling them how much more to write — no AI call is made until they do.
🧩 Grade Content — Stories
Each story has a title, four picture stops (label, caption, and a photo — uploaded or a pasted image URL), and separate writing hints, key words, and discussion points for Native Speakers and ELLs. Adding a new story does not remove existing ones — students choose which story to write from when more than one is available. The built-in default story can't be edited or deleted here, but you can add as many alternatives as you like.
🤖 AI Content Generator Admin only
Always uses Groq GPT‑OSS 120B, regardless of the model chosen above for feedback. The AI writes the title, four story stops, separate NES/ELL discussion points, and NES/ELL hints & key words for this grade, plus an image search keyword per stop — the app fetches a matching online photo automatically (falling back to an icon if none loads). Review the preview, then Save — this ADDS a new story to the grade's list rather than replacing anything.
🔑 Student Accounts
Create timed username/password logins for students. Fixed expiry ends access at an exact date and time regardless of use; variable expiry starts counting down from the student's FIRST successful login.

🧩 Edit Grade Content
Break the story into 4 sequential stops. Each needs a short label and a one-sentence caption.
